WIC Plus Programs:
Lactation Support:
WIC provides peer counselor breastfeeding support to prenatal and
post-partum women to answer common questions about breastfeeding,
provide anticipatory guidance for common breastfeeding problems
and to provide assistance and support to those experiencing problems.
Regalo de Amor, the WIC Lactation Center, offer breastfeeding
support services to all WIC participants by appointment. Breastfeeding
support is also available by phone at 722-7121 x 116. WIC offers
two breastfeeding support groups, called Club Bebes, to Spanish-speaking
mothers with infants up to 6 months of age. Club Bebes is offered
every Monday from 10:00 - 11:30 am in Santa Cruz, and every Friday
in Watssonville from 9:30 - 11:00 am. Moms may come as often
as they like.
Through a collaboration with Watsonville Community
Hospital, the peer counselor staff conducts bedside rounds to
early post-partum women in the hospital every Monday, Tuesday,
Wednesday and every other Thursday from 8 am - 12 pm to help
ensure that breastfeeding gets off to a good start. WIC's bilingual,
breastfeeding staff includes two Internationally Board Certified
Lactation Consultants and four peer counselors/breastfeeding
educators.
VENUS (Vaccinate Every Newborn Under the Sun): Get your child immunized
and receive a free prize for your child! A collaboration between
WIC and the State of California Department of Health Services,
this project aims to increase the immunization rates of children
under
two. We are also a member of All
Kids By Two,
the Santa Cruz County immunization program.
